Another week of NFL games kicks off Thursday night with the Seattle Seahawks heading to San Francisco to take on the 49ers.

These two teams that have controlled the NFC West are now trying to stay out of the cellar.

There are more interesting morsels to be read below with a Week 7 game-by-game match-up breakdown of NFL statistics, news and notes.

Seattle Seahawks (2-4) vs. San Francisco 49ers (2-4)

49ers: Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was facing the reality of being benched after starting the season with an awful 65.4 passer rating over the first four weeks of the NFL season. He threw for 727 yards, two touchdown passes and five interceptions over that stretch. Kaepernick has rebounded magnificently over the last two games, passing for 602 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a whopping 117.6 passer rating.

Seattle: Jimmy Graham looked like his old terrific self in Week 6. It marked the first time since Week 2 of last year (9/14/2014) that he had over 100 yards receiving in a single game. A stretch that covered 18 games.

Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Bills: Winners of the last two meetings against Jacksonville, the Bills aim to win their fourth game of the season, this time in London. Buffalo leads the all-time series 7-5, and current Bills head coach Rex Ryan is 2-1 against Jacksonville in his coaching career while serving in the same capacity for the New York Jets (2009-14).

Jaguars: Last season the Jaguars didn’t score more than 20 points in a single game until Week 7.  So far this season, Jacksonville has scored more than 20 points four times with one game exceeding 30 points. The last time the Jaguars scored 30 points in a single game before this year was back in 2013 against the Cleveland Browns, winning 32-28 in Week 13. Suffice to say the offense is finally coming around in Jacksonville.

Cleveland Browns vs. St. Louis Rams

Browns: The surprise player of the Cleveland offense is journeyman tight end Gary Barnidge. His 413 receiving yards this season are only 190 yards away from tying his all-time total (603). It took Barnidge the previous seven seasons in the NFL to reach 603 receiving yards. He has already amassed more touchdown catches this season (five) than in his entire previous seven seasons combined which resulted in three.

Rams: The Rams have played the Browns four times since leaving Los Angeles for St. Louis. The Rams are 3-1 during that span and this could mark the final time these two teams meet before the Rams pack their bags and head west again.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions

Vikings: This is the 109^th meeting between Minnesota and Detroit. The Vikings are 1-4 in their last five games in Detroit. The average margin of victory for the Lions is nearly a touchdown (6.75) over that period.

Lions: Dating back to 2000, the Lions have lost 24 of last 32 games played against the Vikings. Detroit however, has won six of the last 10 meetings between the longtime NFC North rivals.

Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins

Texans: Houston leads the series 7-0. If the Texans plan on winning back-to-back games for the first time this year they will need receiver DeAndre Hopkins to continue to terrorize secondaries. Hopkins leads the NFL in receiving yards (726), which is nearly 100 yards more than second-place Julio Jones with 638.

Dolphins: In Week 6, Miami running back Lamar Miller rushed for his fourth career 100-yard rushing game since entering the league in 2012. His average of 100 yards per game is right around every eight games. He should be revisiting the mark in Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens.

New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts

Saints: This is only the 12^th regular season match-up between the two the teams since the series first began in 1967. The Saints lead the series, 7-5 (including a Super Bowl victory), but the interesting numbers are the amount of points the teams score in each in their victories. Over the life of the series the winners have averaged over 31 points per game with the last three contests being won with an average of 52.6 points combined per game. Expect some fireworks on Sunday!

Colts: The last running back to rush for 100-yards for the Indianapolis Colts was Vick Ballard in Week 14 of the 2012 NFL season. Ballard had 18 carries for 105 rushing yards. The current drought spans a total of 46 games (including playoffs) since Ballard reached the century mark for the Colts.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs 

Steelers: Landry Jones is presumably making his first start at quarterback since entering the league out of Oklahoma in 2013. In his winning debut last weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, Jones came in relief of the injured Michael Vick and completed 8-of-12 pass attempts for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Chiefs: The Chiefs have allowed the second most touchdown passes (14) in the entire NFL. It begs the question – Can Landry Jones dismantle the Chiefs defense via the pass? Jones will face one of the leagues fiercest pass rushing OLB’s in Justin Houston. He will look to take advantage of Alejandro Villanueva who starts his first game at left tackle after incumbent Kelvin Beachum tore his ACL against the Cardinals. There are plenty of interesting angles for the showdown at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

Jets: November 13, 2008 was the last time the New York Jets visited Gillette Stadium and returned with a victory. The game went into overtime and New York prevailed 34-31 off the leg of kicker Jay Feely.

Patriots: In the same game, New England’s offense amassed 400 yards passing and three touchdowns against the Jets defense. The quarterback was not Tom Brady, but his replacement after tearing his ACL Matt Cassel. Brady is 10-2 against the Jets as the starting quarterback for the Patriots at home.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Redskins

Buccaneers: Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston has a win-loss record of 2-3 after five games. In the two games Winston has walked away victorious, he has avoided throwing an interception and had a completion percentage over 65 percent. The Washington defense has allowed on average their opposing quarterbacks to complete 61 percent of their pass attempts and are tied with five other teams with three interceptions, which ranks 25^th in the NFL.

Redskins: Tampa Bay is one of the teams tied with Washington for 25^th in the league with interceptions. If either Washington or Tampa Bay were going to pat the stat sheet it would be this weekend. Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins ranks fourth-overall in the NFL with eight interceptions while Winston has seven. The combined total of 15 picks between the two starting quarterbacks should grab the attention of each of the team’s secondaries.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Tennessee Titans

Falcons: Atlanta running back Devonta Freeman leads the league with 10 touchdowns (rushing/receiving). That is more than Marshawn Lynch (1), T.Y. Hilton (1), Justin Forsett (1), Eddie Lacy (1), Jeremy Maclin (1), LeSean McCoy (1), Demaryius Thomas (1), Golden Tate (1) and Roddy White (1) combined (nine). Let that digest for a few minutes.

Titans: Could we see déjà vu in Tennessee? Last year the Titans won their first game of the season, which is exactly how their season began this season with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last season Tennessee then proceeded to lose their next four games and won their sixth contest to reach 2-4. Currently the Titans are 1-4 after losing their last four games. Can they duplicate their 2014 start with a win this Sunday?

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

Cowboys: Quarterback Matt Cassel will get the nod at quarterback this weekend for the Cowboys. In his last 12 starts in the NFL, he has thrown 13 interceptions. Was Brandon Weeden that bad?

Giants: The Giants offense, minus their debacle against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday night, has been very productive putting points on the board. In five of their six games they have scored 20-plus points which include two games with more than 30 points on the scoreboard.

Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers

Raiders: Latavius Murray is in a weird place at the moment. He has been benched twice by head coach Jack Del Rio and minus his 139-yard rushing performance against the league’s worst rushing defense (Cleveland Browns), he has been held relatively in check. In his last two games, Murray has carried the football 28 times for 88 yards, zero touchdowns and an average 3.14 yards per carry.

Chargers:  Philip Rivers is having a great statistical year as he currently leads the NFL in passing yards (2,116), which is nearly 400 yards more than second place Andy Dalton (1,761).  Unfortunately, Rivers Chargers are near the cellar of the AFC West and he is destined to go down as a great statistical QB without sniffing a Super Bowl.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Carolina Panthers

 Eagles: The Eagles are 3-1 over their last four games and have positioned themselves into a share of first place in the NFC East with a 3-3 record. Philadelphia started 3-5 (2013) in head coach Chip Kelly’s inaugural season and finished 10-6 and winners of the division. Eagles’ fans may want to press the panic button after another slow start, but hold tight because it’s possible the best is yet to come.

Panthers:  The incredible start by the Carolina Panthers has many believing in Cam Newton.  A perfect 5-0 to start the season against – Wait for it – The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5), Houston Texans (2-4), New Orleans Saints (2-4), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3) and Seattle Seahawks (2-4). Their five wins have come against opponents with a combined 9-20 record. Doesn’t seem so impressive and mighty now, does it?

Baltimore Ravens vs. Arizona Cardinals

Ravens: John Harbaugh has been the head coach of the Ravens since 2008. He has never had a losing season and has won 10 or more games five times along with a Super Bowl. Currently his Ravens are 1-5 and in last place in the AFC North. He has had three seasons with five losses or less and yet he is rumored to be eager to leave Baltimore for the head coaching job at USC. That’s more comical than watching Eddie Murphy’s ‘Delirious’ on Netflix.

Cardinals: Have the Cardinals beaten a team with a current winning record this season? No! They did however beat up on the New Orleans Saints (2-4), Chicago Bears (2-4), San Francisco 49ers (2-4) and St. Louis Rams (2-3). They lost on the road against the (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers and it gets even better. Currently only three teams amongst their last 10 opponents hold winning records (Cincinnati Bengals (6-0), Green Bay Packers (6-0) and Minnesota Vikings (3-2). Just by beating the lousy teams remaining on their schedule, the Cardinals could win the NFC West at 11-5.
