NFL officials and representatives of the players union will meet Tuesday to discuss revisions to the league’s personal conduct policy.

This will be the fourth time the two sides will convene to discuss revisions. The league wants commissioner Roger Goodell oversee discipline and appeals himself. The players union is pushing for formal collective bargaining on personal conduct policy.

The union will be represented by executive director DeMaurice Smith, president Eric Winston and a handful of active players.

“We want to work with the league office and the NFL owners to fix the personal conduct policy,” Winston said. “A collective bargaining process is the only way to ensure that a new policy is fair, transparent and has the full support of the players.”

Last week, Goodell appointed a former NFL executive to handle Adrian Peterson’s season-long suspension. His selecting of Harold Henderson drew criticism from players.

The players union issued a statement saying, “A long-time NFL Executive and current legal consultant cannot, by definition, be a neutral arbitrator.”

Smith had been critical of how Goodell has determined discipline for off-field issues, calling the process “unfair and arbitrary.”
