NFL to review Raiola’s dive vs. Patriots

Published

on

The NFL said Monday it will review the final play of Sunday’s New England-Detroit game.

With the Patriots ahead 34-9, the Lions seemingly were prepared to take a knee and let the clock run out.

Detroit center Dominic Raiola snapped the ball then dove at the legs of New England defensive lineman Zach Moore, incurring the wrath of Patriots coach Bill Belichick and others.

“I’m sure there was a lot of frustration there from Raiola, that was obvious,” Belichick said Monday. “Never beaten us. Had a tough day in there dealing with (Vince) Wilfork, (Dont’a) Hightower and those guys. I’d say that was probably frustration. We saw a lot of that at the end of the game. (Tahir) Whitehead on (LeGarrette) Blount’s touchdown, (C.J.) Mosley on the personal foul on the field goal.”

Belichick emphasized that for his career, Raiola is 0-4 against the Patriots.

According to multiple reports, the NFL will review the play. Raiola might be fined, but it is doubtful he will be suspended.

Raoila admitted after the game that he dove at Moore in retaliation for the Patriots going for a late, meaningless touchdown.

Raiola, who is scheduled to make his 200th start on Thanksgiving Day, also is accused of taking a swing at the back of Moore’s head earlier in the game.
