NFL roundup: McDonald’s court date canceled

Published

on

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald’s court date for Monday was canceled and no new date will be scheduled “unless or until charges are filed,” according to the Santa Clara County district attorney.

However, McDonald’s case will continue to be investigated.

McDonald was arrested at his home Aug. 31 on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Police said McDonald’s fiancee had “visible injuries.”

McDonald was later released on $25,000 bail. He has not been charged.

The 49ers and NFL have allowed McDonald to play since his arrest, saying they are waiting for the legal process to play out until taking any actions regarding discipline.

“We’ve handled it the way we felt was best and stated it from the beginning — how we were going to handle it and then have had the patience to carry it out,” coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday.

The 49ers host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

—Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and guard Chris Williams were downgraded from doubtful to out for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Neither player traveled with the team to Houston.

Goodwin is recovering from a concussion and Williams is out with a back injury.

—The Washington Redskins waived outside linebacker Gabe Miller and nose tackle Robert Thomas on Saturday.

Miller, 26, played in the Redskins’ first four games this season as a reserve. He played 19 special teams snaps and three defensive snaps in Thursday’s 45-14 loss to the New York Giants.

Thomas was promoted from the practice squad on Thursday.

—The New England Patriots signed first-year defensive lineman Casey Walker off the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad.

The Patriots also placed defensive lineman Sealver Siliga on injured reserve with a designation to return.

Walker, 24, signed with the Panthers as a rookie free agent out of Oklahoma in 2013.

Siliga sustained a foot injury in the first half of last Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

—The Indianapolis Colts signed inside linebacker Andrew Jackson to the active roster from the practice squad and waived/injured inside linebacker Mario Harvey.

If Harvey clears waivers, he will be placed on injured reserve.

Jackson was a sixth-round draft pick of the Colts this year and was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 1.
