NFL roundup: Fitzgerald hopes to play
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee Sunday, but coach Bruce Arians said the receiver expects to play this Sunday in a big NFC West game at Seattle.
The Cardinals will see how he feels Wednesday, but Arians told the team’s website that it is a Grade 2 sprain and “he looks OK” to play.
Fitzgerald was injured just before halftime Sunday, but he returned in the second half and caught a key third-down pass to help preserve Arizona’s 14-6 win over the Detroit Lions.
Fitzgerald caught two passes for 33 yards Sunday and has 46 catches for 658 yards and two touchdowns this season.
–Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw suffered what appears to be a broken ankle against the New England Patriots on Sunday night, according to multiple reports.
The team said Bradshaw suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the 42-20 loss and was taken for X-rays. Further testing was scheduled Monday with an MRI planned.
Bradshaw is the team’s leading rusher with 425 yards. He has eight touchdowns this season (two rushing, six receiving).
–The Buffalo Bills placed cornerback Leodis McKelvin on season-ending injured reserve after he fractured his ankle in last Thursday night’s game.
McKelvin suffered the injury in the first half of Buffalo’s 22-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He fell awkwardly on his ankle as he missed a tackle on a 33-yard run by Lamar Miller in the second quarter.
McKelvin led the team with four interceptions this season and finishes with 48 total tackles.
–The Cleveland Browns lost more than a game on Sunday.
Reports out of Cleveland on Monday indicate that linebackers Karlos Dansby and Jabaal Sheard suffered injuries that might end both players’ seasons.
Dansby will be out “upwards of a month” with what is believed to be a sprained MCL, coach Mike Pettine said.
Sheard’s season is likely over because of a bone injury in his foot.
–The San Francisco 49ers added defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey to the 53-man roster and placed nose tackle Ian Williams on injured reserve.
Dorsey had been on short-term IR all season after suffering a torn left biceps in training camp. He returned to practice three weeks ago, and Monday was the deadline for the team to activate him.
Dorsey signed with the 49ers last season and had a career-high 100 tackles and added two sacks while starting 13 games.
Williams is out for the season after suffering a broken left leg against the New Orleans Saints in Week 10.
–New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks suffered a broken thumb and could be sidelined two to four weeks.
Cooks was injured in the Saints’ 27-10 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. He caught five passes for 50 yards in the game.
Cooks, a first-round draft pick from Oregon State, leads all NFL rookies with 53 receptions for 550 yards and three touchdowns.
–The Atlanta Falcons lost cornerback Robert Alford and running back Antone Smith to injuries Sunday in their 19-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Alford, a second-round pick last year who has started every game this season, will miss two-four weeks with a broken wrist.
Smith was placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season with a broken leg. He finished the season with 144 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.
–In response to continuing reports that the Seattle Seahawks and running back Marshawn Lynch have a fractured relationship and are headed for a divorce at the end of the season, coach Pete Carroll said, “We’re working through it.”
Two more stories from NFL.com Sunday fanned the flames as Ian Rapoport repeated earlier reports that the Seahawks will part with Lynch after the season — despite one more year left on his contract.
NFL.com’s Mike Silver said Lynch, who held out in the summer and received a minor adjustment to his deal, blames the Seahawks for the ongoing reports of a pending split.
Asked about it after the Seahawks’ 24-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Lynch said, “Do I think I’ll be gone after this season? I don’t know, man. The Seahawks, their front office gets in the media; they talk a lot. I don’t talk too much. I just play the game. If they have something going on, I don’t know about it.”
As for the relationship between the player and the team, Carroll acknowledged that Lynch might still hold a grudge over his contract.
–Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Dwayne Gratz was arrested Sunday morning in Miami Beach, Fla., and charged with disorderly intoxication and trespassing.
Gratz spent the night in jail and was released on $1,000 bond.
According to a police report by Miami Beach police, Gratz — who appeared intoxicated — tried to use bubble gum as currency to buy items at a hotel store.
When Gratz refused to leave and created a disturbance, police were called. Gratz refused several orders from police to leave and was then arrested.
–The New York Giants waived linebacker Justin Anderson to clear a roster spot for veteran offensive guard Geoff Schwartz, who was activated off short-term injured reserve.
Schwartz is eligible to make his season debut Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. He was placed on the injured reserve list Sept. 3 because of the dislocated right big toe he suffered in a preseason game against the New York Jets on Aug. 22.
“I am ready to go,” Schwartz said. “I had a couple good weeks of practice. Last week was real good. I took every rep for the scout team. I felt good out there. I expect I’ll be ready to go.”
