Published

on

Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles signed a contract extension through 2017.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the contract includes a significant pay raise. Bowles is expected to be a head-coaching candidate again this offseason.

Fifteen teams have changed head coaches in the past two seasons.

Bowles’ contract was set to expire after next season. He was interviewed by the Browns and Vikings before Cleveland went with Mike Pettine and Mike Zimmer went to Minnesota.

Bowles, 50, said Tuesday that he is not looking for his next move.

–Houston Texans rookie outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney said he expects to play in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, albeit in a limited capacity.

Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, has played in only two games this season, recording a total of two tackles. He missed last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles because of a knee injury and illness.

“My knee feels good,” he said, according to the Houston Chronicle. “Having the time off really helped. It’s still not 100 percent, but it’s a lot better.”

Texans linebacker Brian Cushing also is expected to return after missing two games with a knee injury.

–Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson is unlikely to play in Thursday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins because of a groin injury, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

— An MRI revealed that the surgically repaired left knee of San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman checked out “fine,” but there is still no timetable for his expected return to action, CSNBayArea.com reported.

The deadline is Tuesday for the 49ers to declare Bowman available to practice and have him available for the playoffs.

Bowman tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during last season’s NFC Championship game.

–Several Miami Dolphins players are tuning out offensive coordinator Bill Lazor because of his abrasive personality.

NFL.com reported that Lazor’s relationship with several players is “rocky.” Lazor is intense and took an “abrasive tenor with several starters” according to the report, which cites conversations with four players and text messages exchanged with others.

Lazor’s relationship with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was not all roses, as The Sports Xchange reported in January.

–The Denver Broncos placed linebacker Nate Irving on injured reserve on with a knee injury, ending his season.

Irving was the team’s starting middle linebacker for the first eight games but suffered a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the fourth quarter of the Broncos’ 43-21 loss at New England on Nov. 2.

The Broncos also claimed linebacker Todd Davis off waivers from the New Orleans Saints.

–Ben Dogra, the agent for high-profile NFL players such as Adrian Peterson, J.J. Watt and Richard Sherman, was fired by the Creative Arts Agency for cause, according to reports.

No specifics on his termination were immediately available.

Dogra represents more than 35 NFL players and this month was listed by Forbes.com as one of the 10 most powerful sports agents in America. According to NFL.com, Dogra’s clients make more than $225 million combined.
