John Elway and Gary Kubiak are together again, this time as team president and head coach of the Denver Broncos.

Kubiak, who met with the Broncos in Houston on Sunday, finalized a four-year contract to again be Elway’s right-hand man as Denver’s head coach. Kubiak was calling the plays for the Broncos the last time the team hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.

The Broncos will introduce Kubiak at a Tuesday news conference.

The Broncos parted ways with John Fox after 48 wins and four AFC West championships in four seasons following a loss in the divisional playoffs to the Indianapolis Colts.

Seven days later, Kubiak, 53, was back in with the Broncos after serving as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator in 2014 and as the Houston Texans head coach for eight years before that.

–Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he was unsure of the status of two of his star defenders, although Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman both expected to play in the Super Bowl.

The defensive backs underwent MRIs early Monday, and shortly afterward, ESPN’s John Clayton reported that Sherman’s MRI revealed a sprained elbow and the All-Pro cornerback expects to play Feb. 1 against the New England Patriots in Glendale, Ariz.

Thomas reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second quarter Sunday but finished the game.

–New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork helped rescue a woman from her car after it had rolled over near Gillette Stadium following the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Massachusetts State Police said.

Wilfork, who is 6 feet 2 and 325 pounds, lifted the woman out of the Jeep Wrangler as police held the driver’s door open, according to the report.

–Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett was named to the Pro Bowl, replacing New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is unable to participate after his team advanced to the Super Bowl.

Other Pro Bowl replacements were also named.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Cromartie replaced Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

Houston Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown replaced Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jason Peters due to injury.

Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris replaced LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles due to injury.

Cleveland Browns safety Donte Whitner replaced Seahawks safety Earl Thomas.

San Diego Chargers special teams standout Darrell Stuckey replaced New England’s Matthew Slater.

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson replaced Pittsburgh running back Le’Veon Bell, who is injured.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie kicker Cody Parkey will replace New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who will be playing in the Super Bowl.

—The Buffalo Bills announced the hiring of David Lee as quarterbacks coach, rejoining head coach Rex Ryan.

Lee spent 2012 as quarterbacks coach with the Bills and the past two seasons coaching the quarterbacks under Ryan with the Jets.

–Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase is the leading candidate for the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars or Baltimore Ravens, according to reports Monday.

–The NFL is investigating whether the New England Patriots intentionally deflated footballs during their 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

A league spokesperson confirmed the investigation, which was first reported Sunday night by television station WTHR in Indianapolis.

An under-inflated football could potentially be easier to grip and catch. NFL rules stipulate that footballs must be inflated between 12.5-13.5 pounds per square inch and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

–The NFL announced the names of 74 underclassmen who have been granted special eligibility for the 2015 NFL draft, along with 10 additional players who have graduated and are also eligible.

The draft is scheduled for April 30 to May 2 in Chicago.

–The Chicago Bears hired Jeff Rodgers as special teams coordinator after spending the past four seasons in the same role with the Denver Broncos.

–The Detroit Lions told veteran center Dominic Raiola that they won’t re-sign him, according to the Detroit Free Press.

After the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs by the Dallas Cowboys, Raiola said he was hoping to be back.

— The Philadelphia Eagles named Cory Undlin defensive backs coach and promoted Justin Peelle to tight ends coach.
