Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee.

Charles injured his knee in Sunday’s contest against the Chicago Bears and was unable to put weight on his right leg. The Chiefs feared a serious injury and it was confirmed Monday by an MRI exam.

Charles, in his eighth NFL season, has topped 1,000 yards five times during his Kansas City career.

Charles tore the ACL in his left knee in 2011 when he played in just two games.

Charcandrick West has been serving as Charles’ backup.

–Brandon Weeden won’t be unseated as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Network reported that, barring a change of heart by the coaching staff, Weeden — and not Matt Cassel — would be the starter for the Cowboys when the team returns from a bye week.

–Cowboys All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant, recovering from a fractured right foot, has received a therapeutic injection to help improve his healing.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Bryant had bone marrow stem cells removed from his hip last week in Colorado and injected into his ankle in hopes of speeding the process of healing from the injury suffered in the season opener on Sept. 13.

–Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles suffered a Grade 1 sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder during Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced.

At this point, the Jaguars don’t feel the injury to his right shoulder is serious enough to force Bortles to miss this Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Bortles might even practice on Wednesday.

–The Arizona Cardinals reached an agreement on a one-year contract with veteran pass rusher Dwight Freeney.

The outside linebacker passed a physical with the team, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported.

Freeney, 35, is coming off a productive season in which he stayed healthy and led the San Diego Chargers with 40 quarterback hurries. He had 3.5 sacks in 2014 and has been a free agent this season.

–Baltimore Ravens cornerback Will Davis is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Davis, 25, was acquired by the Ravens from the Miami Dolphins last month in exchange for a 2016 seventh-round NFL Draft pick. He made his Ravens debut in Week 4 and eventually became the team’s third cornerback.

–The Buffalo Bills added linebacker IK Enemkpali to the active roster and placed running back Cierre Wood on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.

Enemkpali was signed by the Bills on Sept. 11, the same day he was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season stemming from the incident in which he punched and broke the jaw of former New York Jets teammate quarterback Geno Smith.

–The New York Giants dedicated Sunday night’s game to tight end Daniel Fells, who remains hospitalized with a staph infection that has led to five surgeries and concerns that he could lose his foot.

–New Orleans Saints receiver Marques Colston suffered a separated shoulder in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the NFL Network.

Colston was slated to undergo an MRI exam on Monday to see if there is structural damage to the shoulder. There isn’t yet a timetable for how long he will be sidelined.

–The Indianapolis Colts released quarterback Josh Johnson and signed free agent return specialist Marcus Thigpen.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Johnson was signed by the Colts as a free agent on Oct. 7 because of the uncertainty regarding Andrew Luck’s shoulder injury.

–The Miami Dolphins promoted Darren Rizzi to assistant head coach/special teams coordinator.

The Dolphins continue to make coaching staff changes in the wake of head coach Joe Philbin’s dismissal last week and the promotion of tight ends coach Dan Campbell to interim head coach.
