Buffalo Bills safety Aaron Williams was taken off the field by an ambulance with a neck injury suffered during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

Williams was injured while trying to make a diving tackle on Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman’s 22-yard touchdown reception.

Williams landed on his stomach before being turned over onto his back. He laid on the field for several minutes. He was immobilized and placed on a stretcher before being loaded into the ambulance.

The game was delayed more than 10 minutes and several Bills players huddled in prayer before returning to the field.

Williams’ father said in a tweet Sunday that his son has full movement in his extremities.

—Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was lost for the game after suffering a hamstring injury while diving to try to make a tackle after throwing an interception against the Arizona Cardinals.

After completing his first eight passes, Cutler threw an interception that Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson returned for a 26-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Cutler made a vain attempt to tackle Jefferson and suffered what the team said was a hamstring injury that put him out for the day — and perhaps longer.

Cutler’s injury did not appear to be a hamstring when he landed on his shoulder and head after chasing Jefferson, and he never grabbed at his leg and did not appear to limp as he was helped off the field. Coach John Fox said simply it was a “pulled hamstring.”

Fox said the 32-year-old quarterback will undergo further tests.

“Like I mentioned, it takes a while to run tests,” Fox said. “Our medical people will inform me, and then I will inform you. But at this point he’s got a pulled hamstring.”

Jimmy Clausen, the backup quarterback, took over for Cutler.

—Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant had a bone graft as part of his surgery to repair his broken foot and his return may or may not be longer than expected.

The team is hopeful Bryant can return to the lineup by Oct. 25 and disputed the NFL Network report that Bryant faces a 10-12 week timeframe because of the bone graft. Bryant required a graft, but executive vice president Stephen Jones told FOX Sports on Sunday that there is no way to know Bryant could be out longer than expected.

The Cowboys said his status remains “week to week.”

Bryant suffered a Jones fracture in his fifth metatarsal, the bone running along the outside of his right foot, during the opening win over the New York Giants. He had surgery Monday, and the bone graft is the Cowboys’ standard operating procedure for this type of surgery, sources told ESPN.

The Cowboys had put a four- to six-week timeline on Bryant’s return, and opted against putting Bryant on the injured reserve/designated to return list.

—San Franciso 49ers breakout running back Carlos Hyde left the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third quarter with a head injury and did not return after rushing for 43 yards on 14 carries.

Coach Jim Tomsula said Hyde was cleared to return to action but he opted to hold him out.

Hyde has rushed for just 43 yards on 14 carries. He led all NFL rushers in Week 1 with 168 yards in a 20-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

—Houston Texans offensive lineman Jeff Adams was carted off the field with a knee injury.

The Texans also lost tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz in the second quarter at Carolina. Fiedorowicz was one of two players on the Houston roster who are natural tight ends.
