NFL notebook: Bills’ McCoy has nothing more to say about Kelly
The Sports Xchange
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy didn’t have a whole lot to say Wednesday about the remarks he made last month regarding his former coach, Chip Kelly, in ESPN The Magazine.
McCoy said the Philadelphia Eagles’ coach may make some of his roster decisions based on race, hence his trading McCoy to the Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso in March and last year’s release of wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
Since the story was published, McCoy has not spoken to the local media; and, when he finally agreed to do so, it was clear he didn’t want to spend any time talking about the past.
“I have nothing to say about that,” he said. “I’m in Buffalo. Everything in Philadelphia is over, and I have nothing more to say about it. It is what it is. Everybody can make their own thoughts and assumptions, but I’m done talking about it.”
McCoy added, “I don’t have to explain myself to nobody. Nobody. I don’t. I said what I said, said how I felt at the time. And I’m done with that.”
—The ex-fiancee of Ray McDonald claims in court records that he repeatedly attacked her over several months.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, a restraining order obtained by the newspaper Tuesday shows the 27-year-old woman says McDonald once choked her and once put his knee to her stomach while she was pregnant.
The latter incident led to McDonald’s arrest on Aug. 31, but he was not charged with a crime. He also was arrested May 25 for misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment.
The San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears both have released him in the past six months.
—Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, is No. 1 in NFL jersey sales.
Mariota, the former Heisman Trophy winner from Oregon, edged Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, the first overall pick and former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida State, in jersey sales for May.
The ranking is based on sales on NFLShop.com, the league’s official online store.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. rounded out the top five.
—The Oakland Raiders signed diminutive return specialist Trindon Holliday.
Holliday, 29, replaces rookie seventh-round selection Andre Debose, who was waived with an Achilles injury.
Holliday scored four touchdowns on runbacks for the Denver Broncos in 2012 and 2013 and became the first player in NFL history to score on a punt return and kick return in a playoff game when he did it against the Baltimore Ravens in January 2013.
—The NFL will broadcast its first Internet-only game when the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars play in London this season.
The league announced Wednesday that it selected Yahoo as the exclusive partner to deliver the first live stream of an NFL game to a global audience across devices and for free.
The partnership will bring the NFL’s International Series game in London between the Bills and Jaguars on Oct. 25 to all Yahoo platforms, including Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen and Tumblr, which attract more than one billion monthly users.
