NFL Injuries Cause Fantasy Implications
Find out who you should claim off waivers this week in fantasy football.
Outside of having a good draft, playing the waiver wire the right way is one of the most important things in winning a fantasy championship. Most importantly, paying attention to injuries and picking up replacements.
As mentioned earlier, there were a lot of major injuries to stars on Sunday, which is causing opportunities for everyone to get starting running backs.
Chiefs fantasy stud Jamaal Charles suffered what is being reported as a high ankle sprain that could force him out for more than a month. Knile Davis is an excellent replacement if you haven’t handcuffed him already. Davis filled in for Charles admirably and gained 79 yards on 22 carries, but most importantly scored two touchdowns.
Dolphins starting running back Knowshon Moreno dislocated his elbow and will miss about a month. Lamar Miller figures to get the bulk of the carries, but fantasy owners beware. Everyone speculated on how great of a fantasy back Miller would be last season and it just didn’t materialize. That’s still a really bad Dolphins offensive line and it looks like Mike Wallace and Charles Clay could see more targets in the passing game.
Saints running back Mark Ingram seemed to be coming into his own and it’s a shame that he too is going to miss about a month with a hand injury. Seemingly everything in New Orleans is “by committee,” but a guy who could benefit is Khiry Robinson, who had a nice preseason and runs hard.
In San Diego, Ryan Mathews will miss a month with a sprained MCL. The often injured running back was always someone you considered handcuffing, but if nobody in your league did you could benefit from adding Donald Brown, who the Chargers signed in free agency.
In Jacksonville, tight end Marcedes Lewis will miss approximately 6-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. As for fantasy purposes, now would be a good time to drop Lewis if you have him as the Jaguars don’t really have another startable tight end. What it likely means is some more targets for the remaining healthy Jags receivers.
