Mark Ingram is proving to be a lethal weapon in New Orleans, which is good because the defenses in the NFC South can’t stop anyone.

NFL Fun Stats is put together to provide a wide range of number-oriented morsels for those who crave the delicacy and geek-dom of NFL statistics, news and notes. If you’re not quoting one note each week, I’m not doing my job. Here are your water cooler nuggets.

  • Different quarterbacks have started a game under center for the Cleveland Browns over the last seven years. The list includes Derek Anderson, Charlie Frye, Brady Quinn, Ken Dorsey, Bruce Gradkowski, Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, Brandon Weeden, Thaddeus Lewis, Jason Campbell and finally Brian Hoyer. Hoyer is the first quarterback since Derek Anderson in 2007 to win six games in a season when Anderson won 10. Hoyer has improved his overall record as a starter in Cleveland to 9-4 during the course of the last two years. He has also helped the Browns reach a 6-3 record for the first time in 20 years.

  • Rushing touchdown on the season so far for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. One is one more than his total of touchdown passes thrown to his receivers in 2014. The Chiefs receivers have not been able to display any new ‘touchdown celebration’ dances. His 11 touchdown throws have been to the team’s running backs and tight ends.

  • Is the official length of the season schedule in the NFL. Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has never played in more than 14 games in a season in his career. Entering his fourth year, Murray has six games left to reach the accomplishment. He received plenty of deserved attention becoming the only player in NFL history to begin a season with eight consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He broke the record that was previously held by Jim Brown, who had six straight games back in 1958. Murray, staying healthy for the next six games, won’t receive the hype of breaking Brown’s record, but is a critical factor in the success of the Cowboys’ in 2014. That is the real streak to watch heading down the stretch.

  • Different players caught at least one pass by Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Carr definitely spreads the ball around, considering every other quarterback in the NFL averaged 7.12 completions to different players this past weekend.

0

  • Yards rushing by Pittsburgh Steelers running back Legarrette Blount against the New York Jets. Blount took five carries and ended up with zero yards rushing during the course of the game.

3

  • Consecutive 100-yard rushing games by New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram. It is the first time a Saints running back had three 100-yard games in a season since Deuce McAllister did so nine times during his 1,641-yard, 351-carry 2003 campaign.

4

  • Wins earned out of the 23 starts made by four rookie quarterbacks to make a start in 2014. Minnesota Vikings’ signal caller Teddy Bridgewater leads the pack with three wins. Jacksonville Jaguars Blake Bortles has one win, while Oakland Raiders Derek Carr and Tennessee Titans Zach Mettenberger are still searching for elusive first victory.

3

  • AFC division leaders are identical after Week 10 to the teams that won their divisions last season. The New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Denver Broncos are all in first place and won their respected division’s in 2013. The only new face among the elite is the Cleveland Browns who are 6-3 and at the top of the AFC North.

1

  • NFC division leader matches the winners list from a year ago among the four divisions after Week Ten. The Philadelphia Eagles are the only NFC team that won the division last season and is currently in first place.

971

  • Points allowed by the NFC South (Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers). It is the highest amount of points allowed by any division in the NFL. As a division they allow 26.9 points per game which is 4.3 points more than the league best NFC West. The Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and St. Louis Rams are allowing just 22.6 points per game.
