NFL denies it has evidence Rice tape received
The NFL on Friday denied that it had any evidence that the Ray Rice elevator tape had been sent to its New York office and received by them.
The league also said a claim that a woman made a call confirming delivery of the video was also false.
The league was responding to claims from an unnamed law enforcement official who said he sent the now-infamous video of Rice punching his then-fiancee in a casino elevator to NFL league security chief Jeffrey Miller in April
“Our office has found absolutely no evidence to support the claim of the anonymous ‘law enforcement source’ that he sent a video to the NFL office or that he received a telephone call to his ‘disposable cell phone’ from an unidentified female using an NFL line,” the league said.
Multiple reports on Thursday revealed the unidentified law enforcement official saying he mailed the video to Miller.
Miller responded Thursday night in a statement, saying: “I unequivocally deny that I received at any time a copy of the video and I had not watched it until it was made public on September 8.”
Commissioner Roger Goodell and league officials have repeatedly said no one with the league saw the video until TMZ released it earlier in September.
Goodell has appointed the former director of the FBI, Robert Mueller, to lead a probe into the league’s controversial handling of the Ray Rice domestic-violence case.
