Jalen Ramsey says he’s the best player in the draft and should go first:

Jameis Winston’s lure at Florida State is in part because of the player he was and the national championship he helped the school obtain, and part because he was known as one of the smartest and hardest working players in Florida State history.

According to people close to the program, cornerback/safety prospect Jalen Ramsey is considered to have Winston like intelligence and leadership, leading some to even call the defensive back the “Jameis Winston of the defense.”

Ramsey will attempt to become the second consecutive Seminole to be selected with the first overall pick in the draft after Winston went atop the 2015 NFL Draft to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  On Monday, Ramsey spoke at his pro day and told NFL Media’s Albert Breer he just wanted to get out in front of teams so they could see he was the best player in the upcoming draft.

“I just wanted to come out here and show them the player I am, Ramsey said. “Show them why I’m the best player in this year’s draft.”

A defensive back needs a short memory and a lot of confidence in the NFL, and Ramsey certainly showed plenty of the latter when Breer asked what he was hoping to prove at his pro day.

“I don’t feel like I have anything left to prove,” Ramsey replied. “I’m always out to prove something anyway though, so whatever they have to ask of me, if they have questions that come up I’ll answer them with swiftness. It’s nothing to me. If they need me to go through workouts or anything, I’ll do it, I’m a competitor, that’s what I do. I’m all for proving and showing that I’m the best guy in the draft class.”

While Ramsey grew up in Nashville and would love to play at home, he once again flashed plenty of confidence when suggesting the home town kid angle was just icing on the proverbial cake because he truly believes he should be the guy based on his ability alone.

“They should take me not because I’m a Nashville kid, they should take me because I’m the best player in this year’s draft,” Ramsey persisted. “The Nashville thing is just icing on the cake.”

Karlos Dansby to sign with the Bengals:

The Cincinnati Bengals will round out their linebacker group by signing 12-year veteran linebacker Karlos Dansby. Dansby played his first seven years in Arizona before playing three in Miami and the last two years in Cleveland.

The former second-round pick from Auburn has spent a career around the football and as one of the most underrated players in the game. Dansby is a guy that knows the game and should fit right in with Cincinnati. The veteran linebacker is also very durable, missing just 12 games in his 12-year NFL career.

Dansby will join Rey Maualuga and Vontaze Burfict to form what should be one of the league’s best veteran linebacker units. With Burfict at weak side linebacker, and Maualuga in the middle, Dansby will play strong side linebacker. While the 12-year vet has played inside linebacker for much of his career, he’s a heady veteran who should be able to make the move without much problem at all.

This move should really help the Bengals handle the loss of Burfict early in the season when he serves his three-game suspension for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. While this will be Dansby’s 13^th NFL season, the veteran backer still has the savvy and coverage skills to help out on third down.

He certainly isn’t the same player he was early in his career with the Cardinals, but even this late into his career, Dansby should fit nicely into an already strong Bengals defense.

Anquan Boldin and Terrance Knighton take some visits:

At 35 years old, Anquan Boldin might have tight end speed, but the veteran wide receiver catches everything thrown his way, and is the kind of guy every team should want in their locker room. This is the kind of warrior who returns from a broken face without ever taking pain medication. I just feel that bears mentioning any time there’s a conversation about the former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver.

After a quiet start to the free agency period for the 13-year veteran, Boldin visited the Washington Redskins on Monday. With receivers like Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson, it would be good for Kirk Cousins to have a guy who can find the sticks and catch everything.

If he signs in Washington, it would be no surprise if Boldin becomes Cousins’ favorite guy as the veteran wide receiver has for several quarterbacks before him. While there are quite a few adjectives you could toss at Garcon and Jackson, who are both a lot flashier than Boldin, reliable likely wouldn’t be among them. Reliable is exactly what Boldin is, and exactly what Cousins could use. The Redskins would be wise to get this done.

Terrance Knighton is a curious case. He’s a 6-foot-2, 295 run-stuffing nose tackle who has played well everywhere he’s been, yet he’s been with three teams in his seven-year career. This is the second time in as many years that he has been on the open market, and the second time in as many years that he’s been on the market for some time.

It’s puzzling that Knighton doesn’t seem to draw more interest as he’s a good football player who seems to have a good attitude, and he plays at a position teams are typically looking for help at. Knighton played well enough this past season that the Redskins are bringing him in for a visit on Wednesday to talk about bringing the big defensive tackle back.

Knighton spent Monday in Foxboro, Massachusetts meeting with New England Patriots brass who seem to be looking for depth on the defensive line. The Patriots met with Nick Fairley, who eventually signed with the New Orleans Saints, so the Pats wasted no time turning their attention to the man they call Pot Roast.
