Giants take Myles Jack off their board at 10:

Myles Jack is the most versatile player in the 2016 NFL Draft, and he’s also one of the more talented players who will likely have their names called Thursday night in Chicago. However, despite Jack’s immense talent and versatility, many teams are afraid of a knee injury that could cause him to miss time again in the near future.

While no team will take the talented linebacker off their boards completely, many will be reluctant to use an early first-round pick on the linebacker who might be one of the first five players selected if there were no concerns.

According to a report on NJ.com, the New York Giants who could use help at linebacker about as much as any team in the league has taken Jack off the board when it comes to their 10^th-overall selection in Thursday night’s first round.

It’s unfortunate that a player with such rare ability won’t get drafted as high as he should because of his balky knee, but Jack will have plenty of opportunity to earn money on his second contract if he can prove that he can stay on the field for an NFL club.

The linebacker from UCLA is so versatile and athletic that he was the PAC-12 offensive and defensive Freshman of the Year. Jack was fast and athletic enough that the San Diego Chargers told him they viewed him as a safety, and he sometimes lined up against slot receivers while at UCLA.

Whoever takes the shot on Jack could end up with the best football player in the 2016 draft, or they could end up with an ultra-talented young man who can’t stay on the field because of a knee problem that doesn’t look like it’s just going to disappear according to some teams.

Of course, this is the NFL Draft, and there’s always the possibility that teams like the Giants are saying they wouldn’t want to take the risk in hopes that it causes him to fall right into their laps.

San Diego will shape the early stages of Round-1:

It seems like we’ve heard leaks or rumors of who just about everyone in the top-10 of Thursday night’s first round might be leaning toward, except the San Diego Chargers.

While for some reason they want to (or have been told by the league to) hold their cards close to the vest as far as which quarterback it will be, the Los Angeles Rams have acknowledged that they will be drafting a quarterback with the 1^st-overall pick in the draft.

Like Los Angeles before them, the Philadelphia Eagles moved up to the 2^nd-overall pick in the draft and subsequently told the world they too were about to draft their quarterback of the future, also sending their veteran starter Sam Bradford into a hissy fit, but that’s a story for another day.

Because everyone in the world knows what’s happening with the top two picks Thursday night, most people will be patiently waiting for the draft intrigue to really begin which will happen when the Chargers go on the clock at three.

If the Chargers take what many consider to be the best player in the draft in left tackle Laremy Tunsil, it should stabilize the first round, and could lead to an early run on tackles as we’ve seen in previous years.

However, if the Chargers were to pass on Tunsil, it could really open things up for more first-round trades. The Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars both have very strong offensive lines, and they would almost certainly start fielding calls from teams looking to leapfrog the Baltimore Ravens who would almost certainly select Tunsil if he were to fall to them at No. 6.

Jalen Ramsey is another player who could be selected as early as third by San Diego, and is a player that some teams would consider moving up for whether that be at three or a few picks later if the Chargers were to pass on him. If Ramsey comes off the board early whether it be to San Diego or a team trading into the pick, it could result in players like Vernon Hargreaves and Eli Apple to start climbing earlier than expected.

Regardless of which quarterback goes where (although it seems most believe it will be Goff to Los Angeles, and Wentz to Philadelphia), the real drama will begin Thursday night when the Chargers are on the clock, as their move will go a long way in determining how the early part of the 2016 draft plays out.

Carson Wentz hasn’t heard from the Eagles since they traded up:

Well this is awkward. Speaking at an NFL event in Chicago Wednesday night, quarterback prospect Carson Wentz said he hadn’t spoken to the Philadelphia Eagles since the team traded a boatload of picks to the Cleveland Browns to move into the No. 2 spot, presumably to draft Wentz.

When pressed whether he hadn’t heard anything at all from the team now holding the 2^nd-overall pick, Wentz just replied, “I have not.”

Whoever he’s playing for, the young signal caller can’t wait to get on the field, but understands patience will be best for the long term success of his career.

“As a competitor, you want to get on the field as soon as you can, but obviously you want what’s best for the longevity of your career and everything, that’s not up for me to decide, Wentz said. “I’m going to go in there and compete and show what I can do and just earn the respect of my teammates and everything. Coaches will decide when they feel I’m ready.”

Of course, it’s possible Wentz hasn’t heard from the Eagles because they’re not sure what the heck the Rams are going to do before them. You’d think they would have had to have had a pretty good idea which direction Los Angeles was leaning to trade up behind them, unless they actually like both quarterbacks enough to say to “the hell with it, we’ll take the leftovers.”

Some will probably wonder if there’s a chance Philly is being extra cute and throwing us off their trail before selecting a non-quarterback. Don’t think there’s a chance of that for one second. Teams don’t trade the kind of assets the Eagles traded Cleveland for anything but a quarterback, and you don’t prank your starting quarterback by making him think you’re drafting his replacement so you can create that kind of drama and intrigue for the second pick in the draft. That’s just ludicrous.
