Eagles reportedly trying to move up to Browns second-overall pick:

The Philadelphia Eagles must believe they have a really good idea what the Los Angeles Rams are going to do with the top pick in the draft, or they must be fine picking up the scraps after the Rams decide between Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, because the team is reportedly interested in moving up to the second-overall pick in the draft after failing to trade for the No.1 spot.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reports a source with knowledge of the situation claimed Philadelphia would likely be a likely trade partner as the team has tried to make a deal with the Tennessee Titans before their mega deal with the Rams.

A trade up to the second spot would start with the Eagles first-round picks in this and next year’s draft, and then the teams would need to get creative as Philadelphia is already without a second-round pick this year.

It’s also possible that a deal between Philadelphia and the Browns would be contingent on the player the Eagles like better being on the board after Los Angeles picks on draft night. The Rams moving up to the top spot definitely changed the draft plans of the Eagles, who were also trying to move into the top spot, but according to new Browns’ coach Hue Jackson, it didn’t really affect Cleveland’s plan for the opening round.

“I don’t think I reacted one way or the other because so many things are going to happen before the draft,” Jackson said. “We just kind of stay true to our process and keep evaluating and keep working.”

Jackson knew that the Browns would have someone selecting in front of them, so the team was prepared to let the draft play out before them in what seemed to be a very patient approach. Now it seems the team would like to be even more patient by moving out of the second pick and picking up as many extra selections as possible.

“At the end of the day, the Rams are going to do what they feel they need to do, and the Browns are going to do what we feel we need to do,” Jackson said. “There’s no exact science, as you guys know, to all of this. It’s going to unfold as it’s going to unfold. And if I know Sashi, he’s prepared and ready for anything that can happen over the next couple weeks, up to and through the draft. That’s just the way you have to be, and that’s the way you have to play it. We don’t get to control your own destiny that way. You have to go with it a little bit and understand what’s happening and work from there. I’m sure we’ll do that.”

That’s sounds like a whole lot of mumbo jumbo to keep from saying the words, “we’re going to trade the picks.” Those close to the Browns are hearing differently though, and with the Eagles leaving little mystery as to their desire to move up on April 28^th, it would be no surprise if these two teams come together on a deal.

Nike and Drew Rosenhaus drop Johnny Manziel:

The downward spiral of Johnny Manziel is continuing while it seems everyone around him wants to separate themselves from him professionally. Nike says the quarterback doesn’t represent the brand anymore, and the agent Manziel just hired, Drew Rosenhaus, already says he’s out.

Rosenhaus expressed an interest in helping Manziel, but it won’t be while the quarterback continues down a self-destructive path.

“I have informed him that if he takes the immediate steps I have outlined for him, that I will rescind the termination and continue to represent him,” Rosenhaus said Wednesday. “Otherwise, the termination will become permanent. There is a five-day window for me to rescind the termination. I’m hoping he takes the necessary steps to get his life back on track.”

Manziel released a statement to the media Tuesday, saying he wants to turn his life around and focus on football.

“I’m hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now, so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016,” the former first round pick said. “I also continue to be thankful to those who really know me and support me.”

Manziel needs to stop worrying about playing football in 2016, because it isn’t happening. First, the young man just needs to get sober and stay that way. I don’t have a problem with athletes partying unless those young athletes have a problem partying. The ex-Browns quarterback certainly falls into that category, and he needs to stop immediately.

Once Manziel proves that he can stay away from being stupid for a while, he needs to find a way to earn the trust of an NFL franchise that wants to give him a second chance after he’s figured out sobriety. It’s the only the way for Manziel.

If he’s smart, he’ll figure out that if he takes rehabilitation seriously and gets himself clean over the next year, the Dallas Cowboys will fall all over themselves to make him their reclamation project after watching Tony Romo’s body fall apart.

If Manziel continues to not be smart, he won’t get another shot at football, and that will likely be the least of his problems.

Buccaneers signing of Dan LeFevour could open door for trade of Mike Glennon:

The second the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed quarterback Dan LeFevour of CFL fame, the speculation began that the team could be getting ready to trade backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

It makes sense. Glennon’s value will never be higher, and the Bucs can’t expect him to hang around after his rookie contract knowing that he’s never going to have an opportunity to start as long as Jameis Winston is healthy.

Tampa Bay’s move comes at a time when the Rams have moved up to the first-overall pick in order to select a quarterback, and there are reports that the Browns have multiple potential trade partners for the second-overall pick.

If teams believe that Goff and Wentz will be off the board within the first two picks of the draft, the Buccaneers phone might just start ringing as the list of quarterback deficient teams is much larger than two.

Trading Glennon now makes all the sense in the world for Tampa Bay. If the Bucs can get a second or third-round pick to turn into a player who can impact the team immediately for a player they hope never has to, they have to jump on it while they can.

The reality is the Buccaneers have to hope that a quarterback starved franchise will overpay for the fourth-year signal caller, as Glennon’s game is critically flawed by his inability to connect consistently on deep balls. While he has plenty of arm strength, the Bucs backup quarterback tends to throw deep balls outside the numbers four yards out of bounds. His inability to stretch the field hurt the Bucs when he was their starter, and limit his upside as a starter. If teams are interested in Glennon as a potential starter, or commodity worthy of a high third or more, the Bucs would be wise to jump on it.
