NFL AM: Dolphins Dion Jordan Suspended for 2015 Season
Jordan hit for another substance-abuse violation; Jets fined $100K; Manning not viewing 2015 as the end
Dolphins DE Jordan suspended for season
Looks like it’s a good thing the Dolphins signed that Suh guy to anchor their defensive line.
Miami defensive end Dion Jordan has been suspended for the entire 2015 season for a repeat violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The Oregon product missed a total of eight games last season for drug-related violations – four for using performance-enhancing drugs, and then another four for other drugs.
This is just the latest disappointment for a player who is hurtling towards the distinction of being one of the biggest busts in the history of the NFL Draft.
Miami traded up to the third spot in the 2013 Draft to take Jordan out of Oregon. How bad was the deal? The Dolphins were fleeced by the Raiders, who ended up with Miami’s 12th and 42nd picks.(The Raiders turned those picks into D.J. Hayden and Menelik Watson, which shows they immediately regressed into being themselves after pulling the trigger on the deal).
Jordan has three sacks and 46 tackles in 26 career games. His college coach, Chip Kelly, was reportedly looking into a deal in an attempt to help Jordan revive his career in Philadelphia, but for now that bet is certainly off.
Jets owner fined $100K for tampering
They say the truth will set you free, but sometimes it just ends up costing you a lot of money.
The NFL fined the Jets a total of $100,000 for tampering with Darrelle Revis while he was still under contract with the Patriots – though it certainly looks like a dubious definition of “tampering.”
Jets owner Woody Johnson said the team would “love to have Darrelle back” during a December news conference, which is what you might expect an owner of a lousy team to say about one of his best former players.
But when Revis actually did jump ship from New England in the offseason and signed a free-agent deal with New York, the Patriots filed tampering charges.
In an effort to turn the matter into an even more farcical pissing match, the Jets filed tampering charges against the Patriots after owner Robert Kraft was quoting as saying he wished Revis was still with the team.
The league will not be punishing the Patriots in that counter-claim.
Peyton Manning claims this isn’t his swan song
Every baseball fan – nay, every living American – knew 2014 was Derek Jeter’s final season as he collected accolades and bizarre gifts on every road trip the Yankees made last year.
If 2015 is fellow Gatorade pitch man Peyton Manning’s last hurrah, he’s not letting on.
“I wouldn’t call it (a farewell tour),” Manning told media assembled at Denver’s first organized offseason activities. “That’s not how I see it.”
Manning is entering his 18th season – which certainly seems like the perfect time for No. 18 to walk away if one believes in symmetry. Manning’s struggles at the end of last season and into the playoffs are probably stronger indicators that the end is nigh.
Team president John Elway and new coach Gary Kubiak have discussed different ways of making sure Manning’s arm will stay fresh in December and January, but Manning dodged that line of questioning on Tuesday.
“We’ve got a 1 o’clock lift, it’s going to be pretty exciting, and then we’ve got a 2 o’clock meeting,” Manning said. “So, I’m trying to kind of focus in here on the now. So, whatever they feel is best, I guess I’ll follow suit. But I feel good and obviously I enjoy being out there.”
