Barkley Traded, Room For Tebow?

It’s unclear what the Philadelphia Eagles are going to do with their quarterback position, but they made it clear that former USC quarterback Matt Barkley is not in their plans.

Barkley was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional seventh-round pick.

The real reason why this leads our AM story is because of the ramifications with the polarizing Tim Tebow.  It appears that Tebow now has a better than 50/50 chance to make Eagles roster after finishing his final preseason game by completing 11 of 17 throw, for 189 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

“It’s a blessing to be able to play the game that I love,” Tebow said after the final preseason game. “Sometimes when things are taken away, you realize how much you really love it, and sometimes you love it more after that. So it’s not necessarily coming back, but the time away that makes you love it more.”

Tebow still can’t process what a defense is trying to do and his throwing motion and accuracy still leave plenty to be desired.  The one thing he can do is run and be durable, and with Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez ahead of him on the depth chart, availability is an underrated attribute.

Let’s not think for a moment that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly’s hubris doesn’t have anything to do with this.  There’s little more he loves to do than prove others wrong and if some of the best minds in the NFL have failed to develop Tim Tebow into a useful player, he will give it his best shot….Even if it comes at the detriment of using that valuable roster spot on a defensive player that could help the team on a weekly basis.

Fred Jackson Signs In Seattle

As if the two-time defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks don’t already have an embarrassment of riches in their backfield, they just added another asset.

Seattle reportedly came to an agreement on a one-yeal deal with free agent running back Fred Jackson, who was a key member of the Buffalo Bills backfield for the better part of the last eight years.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had this to say when Jackson visited earlier this week.

“This is a visit for us. This isn’t a signing,” Carroll explained. “This is a visit for us with Fred. We have tremendous respect for this player. He’s got obviously a wealth of background. He’s tough, he’s smart, he’s sharp.

“So we need to see where he is right now at 34 years old and see what he looks like. He’s got a big physical coming up today, and we’ll talk to him later. For those of you that have already made the decision on what’s going on, we have not made that decision at all at this point. But we love that he’s here, and we’re trying to just get our ducks in a row for what may be necessary later on.”

Jackson can catch the ball out of the backfield and spell the great Marshawn Lynch on occasion.  He backed up Lynch for the better part of three and a half seasons in Buffalo.

It’s unclear what this means for Christine Michael or Robert Turbin, as it appears at the very least it will take carries away from both.  Stay tuned on the waiver wire, as if either is let go they will surely be claimed by some team.

Ward Suspended Because Last Name Isn’t Brady

Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward has an extensive history of being fined for illegal hits.  It’s more than possible that some of those may have led to cranial trauma.

Ward was suspended by the NFL for one game for violating the league’s personal conduct policy for an altercation in a bar about 15 months ago.

The Broncos safety allegedly threw a mug at a female bartender, but charges were eventually dropped after Ward did four hours of community service.

Never one to take much responsibility for his actions, Ward gave his opinion on why he was suspended.

“My last name’s not Brady,” Ward told The Denver Post.

“It’s really unfair,” Ward continued. “I’m getting punished for being accused of doing something. Not doing something, but being accused. And I’ve got to pay the consequences.”

It’s quite difficult to compare what Ward did and what Tom Brady allegedly did.  It’s not even an “apples to oranges” comparison, it’s more like “apples to mufflers.”  We suggest that Ward begins to take responsibility for his own actions and worry a lot less about the Brady’s of the world.
