As Rick Dennison begins his new job as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, he’s not sure who will be his starting quarterback for the 2015 season.

That’s because Peyton Manning hasn’t decided yet whether he’ll come back for a fourth year with the Broncos.

Dennison, who was the Broncos’ offensive coordinator form 2006 to 2008, is taking a wait-and-see approach with the Manning situation.

“I’m not proceeding with anything,” Dennison said Tuesday at an introductory news conference. “I’m letting him take his time because he deserves that. I just said hello to him, just like I said hello to everybody on the offense on our roster. I just called him up, said hello, introduced myself, told them if they were around just to come in and say hi.

“No football, no nothing, just say hi. I look forward to working with whoever’s underneath the roof. John (Elway) and those guys will give us a good team and we’ll go from there.”

Dennison, a former Broncos linebacker and assistant coach, isn’t wasting time charting two different scenarios for an offense with or without Manning at quarterback. He said he’s spending more time getting reacclimated to his surrounding and the coaching staff.

“We’re going to see what we do best and see what our team ends up with. It’s certainly no rush,” Dennison said. “He deserves to take his time and figure out what he wants to do, because he’s a phenomenal player, just watching from the outside.

“I don’t think we’ve slowed down at all. Like I said, we’re trying to find our offices; we’re trying to get to know each other. I’ve worked with a few guys on staff. A couple I’m getting to know. I’ve known them over the years (but have not) not really worked with them. So there are a lot of things we can do right now and we’re marching our way through.”

Dennison is eager to get to know running back C.J. Anderson and utilize his skills in the offense.

“I met with him. I liked the kid,” Dennison said. “He had a great year last year. One of the many players I look forward to working with.”

Dennison worked with new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak as his offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans from 2010 to 2013.

“I love working for Gary. He’s an easy guy to work for,” Dennison said. “He’s got great people skills. He knows how to treat people and he knows how to win football games. So what’s not good to work for that?”

Dennison said it’s still to be determined who handles the play calling.

“We’ve got a lot of time before September happens and we get to play football. So we’ll work through that,” Dennison said. “I think that’ll be something where it will evolve as the team progresses, as we build the team and we keep building the staff and work on our system.”

Like Dennison, new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips also returns to Denver to reunite with Kubiak. Phillips was Kubiak’s defensive coordinator with the Texans. He also was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2007 to 2010 and the Broncos in 1993-94.

“I was a lousy head coach, but I’m a pretty good defensive coordinator,” Phillips said jokingly.
