Morris expected to leave Redskins, join Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons will interview Washington Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris for a position on the staff, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
Morris, the former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is set to accept a position with the Falcons, according to the newspaper. The Redskins recently hired Joe Berry as their new defensive coordinator, so Morris’ future on the coaching staff was in doubt.
Although the Falcons have yet to name a head coach, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is the favorite to replace Mike Smith.
According reports, Quinn will coach in the Super Bowl next Sunday before being officially named the Falcons’ head coach the next day.
Morris, 38, is scheduled to interview with the Falcons for a hybrid assistant-defensive coordinator position under Quinn, two sources told the Washington Post. Quinn is expected to continue calling the defensive plays as head coach in Atlanta.
Morris, who played for Hofstra when Quinn was an assistant and then joined him on the coaching staff, coached in Washington the past three seasons.
Morris was the head coach of the Bucs from 2009-11 and posted a 17-31 record.
The Falcons have already decided on Kyle Shanahan as their next offensive coordinator.
