Mike Zimmer: ‘This Franchise is Teddy’s’

Published

on

The sounds reverberating off the walls at TCF Bank Stadium validated the writing on them, that this is Teddy Bridgewater’s team and he’s taking it over one throw at a time.

Bridgewater frantically made the 3rd-and-5 audible at the line, checking out of one pass play to a shorter option against a New York Jets’ blitz that featured every defender in man coverage. Jarius Wright took the receiver screen and broke one tackle to go 87 yards, lifting the Vikings to a 30-24 overtime win on Sunday.

Cannons exploded in the east end zone, an announced crowd of 52,152 chanted ‘Ted-dy!’ as coach Mike Zimmer made the postgame declaration in the bowels of the college stadium.

“I think when Teddy decides to be the leader of the football team, because right now he’s still feeling his way a little bit and his personality is just do what you do and do what you have to do,” Zimmer said. “This franchise is Teddy’s. I know that was a good headline for you.

“That’s what he needs to do, he needs to take it over. This is his team now.”
