Mariota edges Winston in NFL jersey sales
The Sports Xchange
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, is No. 1 in NFL jersey sales.
Mariota, the former Heisman Trophy winner from Oregon, edged Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, the first overall pick and former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida State, in jersey sales for the month of May.
The ranking is based on sales on NFLShop.com, the league’s official online store.
New England Patriots quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady, who is appealing his four-game suspension by the league for his alleged role in Deflategate, finished third in jersey sales for the month.
Rounding out to the top 10 were Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Houston Texans defensive end and NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt was the highest defender on the list, coming in at No. 12.
Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Tim Tebow, who was signed in April and hasn’t thrown a pass in the NFL in three years, had the 15th best-selling jersey.
The Super Bowl champion Patriots finished as the best-selling team in May, followed by the 49ers and Seahawks.
