Mariota becoming matinee idol … off the field
The Sports Xchange
NASHILLE – Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has a laid-back personality, but already he is becoming a Madison Avenue hit. Mariota is starring in Subway commercials and also in the Nissan Heisman House ads with a number of other former Heisman Trophy winners.
Mariota said he watched a lot of football during the bye week for the Titans and was asked about seeing himself so much in the ads. He said he turned away and didn’t watch, but his parents and girlfriend gave him grief about it.
“Subway and all the other sponsors did a great job of filming it, but I don’t think of myself as a very good actor,” Mariota said.
As for the Heisman House ads, one of them has him playing ping pong with another former Titans Heisman winner, running back Eddie George. Mariota was asked about his ping pong talents.
“I’m OK, but they made me look really good. I think I could take Eddie, but Charles Rogers was really good and Vinny Testaverde was really good as well. It was run to just kind of lay back and play ping pong and hang out with those guys,” he said.
Notes: Wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham has only three catches this season, but he has made the most of them. Two catches went for touchdowns and the third set up a first-and-goal. DGB said when the Titans drafted him he believed he could catch 10 TD passes as a rookie. … Guard Chance Warmack (knee) should be back on the practice field this week. The starting right guard indicated that he should be able to return to the lineup this week against the Bills after being out against the Colts. … Cornerback Jason McCourty (groin) has been out since Aug. 6 and had groin surgery, but practiced the week of the Colts game and is expected to make his season debut Sunday against the Bills.
