Manziel remains in treatment
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine revealed Monday night that quarterback Johnny Manziel was entering a fifth week of treatment at an undisclosed rehabilitation center.
Manziel entered rehab on Jan. 28 for a minimum 28 days of treatment. Pettine said Manziel’s treatment, possibly for alcohol and substance abuse, was “open-ended” and based on his individual need.
“There was no set end date,” Pettine said. “It’s more important — the personal stuff now — football is an afterthought so we’re just giving him his privacy and (letting him) do what he has to do.”
The Browns’ coach told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he visited Manziel in rehab last month, and was encouraged that he’s taking all the time he needs.
“He’s in a much better place now than before he went in,” he said at the NFL combine. “He’s very determined to come out of it in a much better way.”
