Manning ties all-time TD mark
DENVER — Peyton Manning tied the NFL’s all-time record with his 508th career touchdown pass in the first quarter Sunday night to stake the Denver Broncos to a 14-0 lead over the San Francisco 49ers.
Manning led two touchdown drives on the Broncos’ first two possessions Sunday night and completed his first seven passes, the last of which was a 39-yard stop-and-go route to Wes Welker, whose outstretched left arm held the football as he hit the pylon. An official review confirmed the score to knot Manning with Brett Favre as the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes.
Manning began the night by leading a drive that he finished with a 3-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, boosting his career total to 507.
It was the first touchdown reception for Sanders, an offseason free agent acquisition, from Manning, who extended his consecutive game streak with at least one touchdown pass to 45, fourth longest in NFL history.
Sanders was wide open on a slant route after 49ers defensive back Dontae Johnson ran into umpire Mark Pellis as he was giving chase to Sanders.
Manning also extended his active streak of consecutive games with a touchdown to 45 games. Drew Brees (54) holds the NFL mark.
