Manning rips Denver’s scoreboard operator

Published

on

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning went off on the scoreboard operator at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in his post-game press conference Thursday night, saying “it wasn’t his best night.”

Manning, four days after setting the NFL’s all-time passing touchdown record, wasn’t happy when he heard the boos when the scoreboard operator showed San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers’ face.

Manning heard the cheers when the picture immediately switched to a live shot of himself on the Broncos’ sideline.

“Our fans were great,” Manning said. “But the scoreboard operator, it wasn’t his best night.”

Manning also was irritated when the Broncos were trying to chew up the clock in the closing minutes of the 35-21 win over their AFC West rival and the crowd was going crazy. That forced Manning to try to quiet down a stadium of 76,907.

“I have no problem with our fans, our fans are great. I’ve got a problem with our scoreboard operator. I’ve got to have a little talk with him,” a serious Manning said. “I’m not sure what he’s doing. He’s playing music and showing our players dancing and getting the crowd fired up when we have the ball. I don’t think we should be doing that. I don’t think we should be showing their quarterback on the sideline. I thought that was kind of disrespectful.”

Manning went 25 of 35 for 286 yards and three touchdowns. With the victory, the Broncos (6-1) now own a 1 1/2- game lead over the Chargers (5-3) in AFC West.
