Eric Mangini reportedly will interview for the defensive coordinator position of the Washington Redskins.

Mangini, the former coach of the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, has spent the past two seasons as an assistant in San Francisco. According to NBC Washington, he will interview for the DC position on coach Jay Gruden’s staff, which came open when Jim Haslett and the team parted ways after five seasons.

Mangini was a defensive assistant under Bill Belichick in New England in the early 2000s and was hired as the Jets’ coach in 2006. He went 23-25 in three years in New York and then landed in Cleveland after the Jets fired him. He was 10-22 in two seasons running the Browns.

He joined the 49ers in 2013 as an offensive assistant and coached tight ends in 2014.

Mangini also interviewed for the Oakland Raiders’ coaching job recently.

The Redskins interviewed Wade Phillips on Thursday and also talked to 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell and San Diego Chargers linebackers coach Joe Barry.

Washington defensive backs coach Raheem Morris is also a candidate. He was scheduled to interview with the New York Giants for their defensive coordinator job on Friday.
