Lynch reportedly has deal with Seahawks

Published

Running back Marshawn Lynch reportedly was on his way to Seattle on Friday to sign his new contract with the Seahawks.

Lynch, just back from a football camp in Turkey, was spotted on a plane to Seattle on Friday afternoon, and Adam Schefter of ESPN confirmed via a source that Lynch had reached agreement with the Seahawks.

The deal is for one year and $11 million, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

The Seahawks reportedly had offered Lynch $12 million in 2015, a raise of $5 million over his scheduled salary, plus $9 million in 2016.

An agreement was reported by CBS Sports on Feb. 21, but Doug Hendrickson, Lynch’s agent, denied a deal was done, tweeting, “Contrary to reports, there is no Marshawn Lynch deal.”

That report came after Hendrickson reportedly met with Seahawks general manager John Schneider at the Combine in Indianapolis.

At the Combine, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, “I have not talked to Marshawn, but we have been in earnest a great deal of time now negotiating to get Marshawn back with us in every way that we can. It’s been an ongoing, long process, and we have had big offers out, and we continue to work with that, and we are excited about the future.

“He has been an integral part of our program for five years and (we have) loved the contribution he has brought. He has been a great character in our program, so we are excited to move ahead. We would really like to move at that swiftly. It’s such a big deal, as it has always been, to get our lead players intact, so we are working at that now.”

Lynch, 29 in April, has run for at least 1,200 yards in four straight seasons and scored 56 touchdowns. In 2014, he rushed for 1,306 yards and scored a career-high 17 touchdowns.
