Lions’ Suh wins appeal of suspension

Published

on

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh had his one-game suspension and fine rescinded Tuesday by the NFL, clearing him to be on the field for Sunday’s NFC wild-card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Suh appealed the suspension and $70,000 fine for stepping on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ leg during Sunday’s regular-season finale.

There was some debate whether Suh’s actions were accidental or intentional, but NFL hearing officer Tedd Cottrell, who was jointly appointed by the league and the NFL Players Association, sided with Suh.

Suh had been suspended Monday by NFL vice president for football operations Merton Hanks after ruling that Suh violated player safety rules prohibiting unnecessary roughness.

Suh’s availability will be a boon to a Lions defense facing Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, the NFL’s leading rusher, and Dallas quarterback Tony Romo.
