Lions sign QB Stanzi to practice squad
The Sports Xchange
With two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster entering the regular season, the Detroit Lions added veteran Ricky Stanzi to the practice squad on Tuesday.
Stanzi played collegiately at Iowa and was a fifth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011.
The Lions released Kellen Moore, who signed with the Cowboys to join the practice squad in Dallas on Monday.
Stanzi, 28, will be an insurance policy of sorts. The Lions, one of 13 teams with only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, will carry starter Matthew Stafford and backup Dan Orlovsky on the Week 1 actives list at San Diego.
Stanzi has also had stints with the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
