Lions release S Mays
The Sports Xchange
The Detroit Lions have released safety Taylor Mays.
Mays asked for his release Friday, a day after he was not used in the Lions’ preseason loss to Washington, and the team announced the move Saturday.
“It’s just kind of one of those things where everybody’s got to perform and he gave it his best,” coach Jim Caldwell said.
Mays signed with the Lions in June after the Minnesota Vikings cut him.
The 27-year-old Mays, a former second-round draft pick out of USC, started just four games over four years with the Cincinnati Bengals. He also spent a year with the San Francisco 49ers.
