Lions cut K Henery
For the third time in six weeks, the Detroit Lions will have a new kicker by the time preparations begin Wednesday for their game at Minnesota on Sunday.
Head coach Jim Caldwell announced Monday at his press conference that kicker Alex Henery, who missed three attempts in a three-point loss to the Bills a day earlier, was released.
Between rookied Nate Freese, released after three games, and Henery, the Lions have made just 4-of-12 field goals in 2014.
“We’ve got to find a performer,” Caldwell said.
The Lions will work out kickers on Tuesday. Among them will be former Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, who was part of a previous tryout and played for Lions special teams coach John Bonamengo.
“We’re not going to make excuses for where we are,” Caldwell said. “We’ve just got to get better.”
