Lions’ Bush doubtful, Johnson questionable

Published

on

Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush is listed as doubtful and wide receiver Calvin Johnson as questionable for Sunday game against the Atlanta Falcons in London.

Bush missed practice for the second straight day Friday with an ankle injury but he told the Detroit Free Press that he will play against the Falcons at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Bush missed much of the second half of last Sunday’s victory over New Orleans, gaining just 10 yards on four rushing attempts. Bush has rushed for 171 yards this season, but has also caught 25 passes for 161 yards.

If Bush can’t play, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick are likely to get most of the carries for the Lions.

Johnson practiced on a limited basis the past three days after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. He has struggled with the issue most of the year. Johnson caught just three passes for 19 yards in the previous two games combined and will likely be limited even if he does play in Week 8.

“He did work yesterday. I thought he did a pretty good job, but we’ll see where he is today,” head coach Jim Caldwell said of Johnson.

The Lions may be without three tight ends for the game. Eric Ebron (hamstring) and Joseph Fauria (ankle) have been ruled out while starter Brandon Pettigrew (foot) has been designated as doubtful.

“It just depends on what happens here in the next day or so,” Caldwell said of his tight ends. “Obviously, Brandon is still a big question mark to be honest with you. We’ll see where that goes here in the next 24 hours. Twenty-four to 48 hours can make a tremendous difference, so we’ll see what happens.”

Right tackle LaAdrian Waddle is questionable after suffering a concussion last week, but his chances of playing look better after he got in a full practice Friday.

Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (toe) and running back Theo Riddick (hamstring) participated in full practice and are listed as probable.
