Lacy hopes asthma doesn’t flare up again

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Eddie Lacy isn’t concerned about his asthma impacting him for a second straight game in the postseason.

The Packers’ rugged halfback had to drop out of the divisional playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday for a short time early in the game because of some issues tied to his respiratory condition. Lacy had a big start with 45 yards on seven carries in Green Bay’s first series, and he finished with 101 yards on 19 carries.

Riding a team-record streak of 10 games with at least 100 yards from scrimmage, Lacy is optimistic he won’t have a relapse in the NFC Championship Game at Seattle on Sunday.

“I played there before earlier (in the season), and I didn’t have a problem,” Lacy said. “So, it should be the same thing.”

When asked whether the Sunday forecast for rain showers and temperatures in the high 40s could cause the asthma to flare up, Lacy responded, “I don’t know. We’re going to find out.”

Incidentally, Lacy didn’t finish the Packers’ season-opening game at Seattle in early September, a 36-16 Seahawks victory.

A booming shoulder-to-helmet hit by Seahawks All-Pro safety Kam Chancellor as Lacy was running in the open field after catching a screen pass resulted in the running back’s exit early in the fourth quarter a play later. Lacy had symptoms of a concussion.

“Uh, I remember it wasn’t a concussion. It was ‘got my bell rung,'” Lacy said with a laugh Wednesday. “The difference is when I get a concussion (as he did early in his 2013 rookie season), I didn’t remember what happened at all. In this one, I knew exactly what happened.”

Despite the devastation leveled by Chancellor, whom Lacy called “definitely one of the hardest hitters I’ve ever run into,” Lacy didn’t have to miss the next game.
