Caldwell Explains Why He Didn’t Challenge OBJ’s “Catch”
See why Jim Caldwell didn’t challenge Odell Beckham Jr’s catch.
Coming into Sunday’s contest, the Detroit Lions were red hot. As a matter of fact, they were winners of five straight. However, their streak was snapped by the New York Giants, who are now winners of seven of their last eight games.
The Giants lone touchdown came on the opening drive, but it might not have come to fruition if head coach Jim Caldwell decided to challenge an obvious incomplete pass to Odell Beckham Jr.
Yes, OBJ was rewarded for the four-yard gain.
“It was 4 yards. We’re not going to challenge that play,” said Caldwell, who has challenged only three plays all year (one successfully). “It was late when we saw it, but we wouldn’t have challenged it anyway in that situation.”
It may have only been four yards, but if Caldwell did challenge it, New York would’ve been faced with a second and ten, versus second and six, so who knows if they still would have marched down the field for six.
