Jets TE Amaro lost for season

So much for Jace Amaro’s second season in the NFL with the New York Jets.

The tight end suffered a torn labrum in the Jets’ preseason opener against the Detroit Lions and will have surgery to repair the shoulder, coach Todd Bowles said. The Jets placed Amaro on injured reserve Tuesday when team rosters had to be reduced to 75 players.

Amaro’s loss comes as somewhat of a surprise. The initial injury was considered minor and Amaro said last week that the shoulder was improving.

With Zach Sudfeld also out with an injury, the Jets will look to tight ends Jeff Cumberland, Kellen Davis, Arthur Lynch and Wes Saxton to fill the void.

As a rookie in 2014, Amaro finished with 38 catches for 345 yards and two touchdowns, including a 10-catch, 68-yard game with a touchdown against the Denver Broncos.
