Jets Select Leonard Williams 6th Overall- Full NFL Draft Analysis
The New York Jets found what could be the best player in the draft sitting in their laps at No. 6 overall as they selected former USC defensive end Leonard Williams.

“The Jets went true best available player as they grabbed Leonard Williams, who plays a position in which the team is loaded with Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson. This may open up the possibility for a trade of Wilkerson. Williams is the most dominant player in this draft and Jets’ head coach Todd Bowles will figure out a way to incorporate him.”- Charlie Bernstein

“There’s no chance the New York Jets thought they’d be taking Leonard Williams with the sixth overall pick in the draft. Many believe Williams is the best player in this draft, and he bolsters and already strong defensive front on what may be a top 3 defense in the NFL next season. The Jets might already have a couple of pro-bowl level 5-techniques, but the good news is Williams is versatile enough to play all over the defensive line. This may have not filled a need for the Jets, but they may have just gotten the steal of the first-round.”- Pat Donovan

“The New York Jets are trying to get back to their natural identity. It starts up front and Leonard Williams will add much needed physicality. In 2014, Williams had 80 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, one interception and forced three fumbles. Williams is listed at 6-foot-5, 302 pounds.”- Mark Gunnels

“Sometimes the worst thing you can do on draft day is over think things. The Jets avoided that pratfall nicely, adding Leonard Williams — regarded by most as the top overall prospect in the draft — to a defense that has been completely retooled under new defensive minded coach Todd Bowles. Williams is not the edge rusher the Jets sorely need, but he will be part of a dominant defensive front that should be damn near impossible to run on. He will also command double-teams on a regular basis, making life easier for all the linebackers behind him.”- Michael Lombardo

“The rich get richer. No doubt in my mind, Leonard Williams is the best player in this draft. He gets into the backfield from the inside of the defensive line better than most edge rushers. Crazy athleticism for a guy of his size and he’s supposedly added 20 more pounds to the frame to make him even tougher to deal with. Adding him to a front that already has Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson makes the Jets defense absurdly great. Todd Bowles is going to have a field day. Look out Tom Brady.” – Devon Jeffreys
