Jets re-sign LB Harris

Published

on

The New York Jets re-signed linebacker David Harris to a three-year, $21.5 million deal, according to reports Friday.

Harris was going to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. The deal reportedly includes $15 million guaranteed in the first two years.

New Bills head coach Rex Ryan, formerly of the Jets, was targeting Harris after trading linebacker Kiki Alonso to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Harris, 31, played all 16 games in 2014, totaling 124 tackles with six sacks and two forced fumbles. He has missed just five games in his playing career, amassing 885 tackles with 30.5 sacks and six interceptions. He has led the team in tackles in seven of his eight seasons.

The deal with Harris comes after the Jets earlier in the day made a trade with the Chicago Bears for wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The trade can’t become official until Tuesday, the start of the league year.
