Jets’ Milliner injures Achilles
New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner suffered an Achilles injury that forced him to leave Sunday’s 31-17 loss to the Denver Broncos in East Rutherford, N.J.
Jets coach Rex Ryan said after the game that Milliner injured his right Achilles, but the extent of the damage won’t be known until tests are performed Monday. An Achilles injury likely would end Milliner’s season.
Milliner was not involved in contact when the injury occurred. He was rushing from the outside on the field goal block unit and, as he came out of his stance, he fell to the turf in pain. Trainers guided Milliner off the field and and to the locker room.
The No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft had suffered a high ankle sprain during training camp that kept him out of three preseason games and the regular-season opener.
When Milliner returned in Week 2, he sustained a quadriceps injury in practice and sat out two more games before he returned last week to play against the San Diego Chargers.
Milliner’s absence left the Jets with career backups Phillip Adams and Darrin Walls at cornerback against the Broncos’ offense and quarterback Peyton Manning.
