Jaguars claim RB Pierce off waivers

Published

on

A day after the Baltimore Ravens released Bernard Pierce in the wake of a DUI arrest, the Jacksonville Jaguars claimed the running back off waivers.

The three-year veteran joins Denard Robinson and Toby Gerhart in the Jaguars’ backfield.

Robinson led the team with 582 rushing yards (4.3 per carry) last season, and Gerhart gained just 326 (3.2 per carry) in the first year of a three-year, $10.5 million contract.

Pierce was beaten out by Justin Forsett for the Ravens’ starting job last year after Ray Rice was released. Pierce ran for 366 yards and two touchdowns.

The Ravens, who already had cut two other players who had legal cases pending this offseason, waived Pierce on Wednesday after he was arrested for DUI just before 2 a.m.
