Impact Of Jordy Nelson’s Injury For Packers, Fantasy

Jordy Nelson went down with what is being reported as a torn ACL. Find out the impact on the Packers and fantasy owners.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson went down on a non-contact play during Sunday afternoon’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The early reports are confirming the worst, that Nelson has torn his ACL and will be lost for the entire 2015 season.

Packers Impact:  Jordy Nelson is not a product of the system, nor is he a product of just Aaron Rodgers’ greatness.  Nelson is a legitimately elite receiver who consistently gets open and makes big plays.

With that said…..

Green Bay is probably the team in the NFL that is best equipped to lose a player of Nelson’s caliber.  The main reason is the obvious one, Aaron Rodgers.  He’s the very best quarterback in the league and one of the best ever.  He makes everyone on the field better and Randall Cobb has No. 1 wide receiver skills.  Davante Adams and Ty Montgomery will have bigger roles in the offense as well.

Fantasy Impact:  This horrifying news for Packers fans means that Cobb owners will have a little more value.  Look for Adams to play a bigger role than expected, and quite honestly that should be the biggest fantasy impact (as compared to his value prior to the injury).  Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery may be draftable in deeper leagues also. They will compete for the No. 3 receiver job.

It’s doubtful that the Packers will change their offense much, if at all.  Even with a running back as great as Eddie Lacy (who should have a monster year), any play where you’re taking the ball out of Aaron Rodgers hand is not your best play.
