Charlie Stubbs, head coach at Nicholls State since 2010, resigned on Sunday citing health issues.

The school released a statement in which Stubbs revealed he has been diagnosed with “major health issues.”

“For more than four years I have given my best effort to create the climate of change needed to support a winning football program here at Nicholls,” he said in the statement. “I know that now is the time to step aside and focus my efforts on my health.”

In four-plus seasons, Stubbs has compiled a 10-38 record, including an 0-3 mark this season.

The school appointed associate head coach Chuck Hepola to oversee the day-to-day football operations until Stubbs’ replacement is hired.
