Hard Knocks Episode 4 Recap: Mallett Sleeps In
There is only one more episode of Hard Knocks with the Houston Texans left, and we have your recaps, in case you missed it. Here are the notes from Episode 4.
- The episode begins where last week’s left off with Bill O’Brien talking about naming Brian Hoyer as the starting quarterback.
- OC George Godsey talks with Hoyer and Ryan Mallett about being on the same page.
- Christian Covington catches a punt and the team celebrates because they get to leave the hotel early and return to their houses.
- Duane Brown is featured returning to a pretty fantastic house.
- Kourtnei Brown playing with his game ball and reading the newspaper.
- David Quessenberry is getting a treatment for cancer. He’s in remission.
- More “F-bombs” from O’Brien.
- J.J. Watt talks about going to be at 8:30 or 9:00, and eating right.
- Travis Labhart is having a bad practice and he can’t really afford to. They cut to him fishing with his wife. Even if he doesn’t make the team, he’s winning at life.
- Charles James is getting beat in practice.
- Bill O’Brien is talking to James about his size and his roster spot. He gives him words of confidence and tells him that “he’s made it a very difficult decision.”
- Brian Cushing is working out. He misspelled “opportunity”. This isn’t a very good advertisement for a USC education. Vince Wilfork can’t really spell anything.
- Charles James is playing Madden with Odell Beckham. Now James is making fun of O’Brien to Beckham.
- Beckham wins the game. James is upset.
- Rick Smith is talking to John Elway about a trade.
- David Quessenberry is broken up talking with O’Brien. O’Brien tells him he can’t come back this year. It’s also Quessenberry’s birthday. He’s placed on the Non-Football Injury list.
- Ryan Mallett oversleeps and misses practice. O’Brien is obviously unhappy.
- Mallett is now talking with GM Rick Smith. He’s blaming technology then saying that he’s not making excuses.
- Vince Wilfork is wearing overalls without a shirt on underneath and cowboy boots. He looks insane.
- Wilfork is cracking up the coaching staff with his outfit. He definitely adds personality to the team.
- Erin Andrews tells Charles James that she’s a huge fan of his.
- Cushing drops an interception in the Saints game.
- Kourtnei Brown gets a forced fumble.
- Smith completes the trade with the Broncos.
- Charles James is playing well.
- “EZ” draws a pass interference that sets up a touchdown.
- Charles James moves to running back and takes it to the house. Play is nullified by a holding penalty.
- Bill O’Brien flips off James when he shows him the football.
- O’Brien begins cutting players. He’s very direct and explains why they’re being let go. They seem to respect it.
- O’Brien and Rick Smith talk about how hard it is to cut guys and how they’re all good guys.
- Travis Labhart is the last guy to get cut. O’Brien tells him that he would make “one hell of a coach.”
- The episode ends with J.J. Watt and Vince Wilfork eating bbq. It looks tremendous.
