Hackenberg Still No. 3 QB For Jets
With the promotion of backup Bryce Petty to starting quarterback for the New York Jets, it would seem obvious that they’re auditioning young players because the season is lost.
One of those players isn’t likely to be rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg, as he will remain No. 3 on the team’s depth chart according to head coach Todd Bowles.
“Fitzpatrick will back-up right now,” Bowles explained. “Hackenberg will take some reps and we’ll see how he goes in the next coming weeks.”
When asked for a reason why Hackenberg was third-string, Bowles had this to say: “He hasn’t taken the reps. The other guys have taken all the reps. To just throw him in there right now would be a disservice to the kid.”
Again, who controls the reps?
If anyone is doing “the kid” a disservice it’s his head coach.
