Grossman turns down Browns’ offer to suit up

Veteran quarterback Rex Grossman has turned down an offer from Cleveland to sign with the Browns for the team’s finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the 11-year veteran would receive a minimum $53,529 if he were to suit up for one week. Grossman spent a couple of weeks with the Browns during training camp.

The Browns are believed to have contacted Tyler Thigpen, another quarterback who spent time with them over the summer.

Johnny Manziel has been ruled out for the game with a “significant” hamstring injury, the Plain Dealer said. Brian Hoyer is considered probable, but coach Mike Pettine said Hoyer’s playing status will depend how he progresses throughout the week.

Pettine could decide to start undrafted rookie quarterback Connor Shaw, who’s spent the season on the practice squad.
