Giants RB Jennings has sprained MCL

Published

on

New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings sprained the MCL in his left knee in Sunday’s 30-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons., the team announced Monday.

Jennings was hurt on his first carry of the second half and trainers applied a wrap and large amounts of ice to his left knee. Jennings gained nine yards on the run, carrying a host of Atlanta defenders for a first down.

Rookie Andre Williams will be counted on to carry the load while Jennings recuperated.

“I think I’m as ready as I’m going to be,” Williams told the New York Post. “There’s no time to analyze whether I’m ready or not.”

Williams, drafted in the fourth round, stepped in and gained 65 yards on 20 carries.

Jennings had been averaging 4.2 yards per carry with 341 yards on 81 carries and two touchdowns in addition to nine receptions for 92 yards.

If Williams falters, the Giants have veteran Peyton Hillis as another option.
