Giants put Kiwanuka on IR
The New York Giants on Tuesday placed longtime defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka on injured reserve with a knee injury, perhaps marking the end of his career with the team.
During his nine seasons with the Giants, Kiwanuka has earned two Super Bowl rings.
Kiwanuka, according to ESPN, likely will be released at the end of the season for salary cap reasons. He’ll be 32 next year and is scheduled to count $7.45 million against the 2015 salary cap. The Giants can save $4.825 million against next year’s cap by cutting him.
New York drafted him out of Boston College in 2006 with the 32nd pick.
