EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – New York Giants starting strong-side linebacker Devon Kennard and nickel linebacker Jonathan Casillas were among the team’s seven inactive players in their Sunday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kennard suffered a hamstring strain in last week’s 24-10 win over Buffalo.
An every-down linebacker for the Giants, he was replaced in the starting base defensive lineup by Jasper Brinkley, whom the Giants acquired off waivers from Dallas in Week 1.
Other notable players designated as inactive for the Giants included defensive ends Robert Ayers Jr. (hamstring) and George Selvie (calf). Kerry Wynn received his third start at left defensive end, having moved ahead of Selvie on the depth chart.
49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who hoped to be back in the lineup this week after missing last week with a knee injury, and linebacker Ahmad Brooks were among the 49ers seven inactive players in their Sunday night matchup against the New York Giants.
Cullen Jenkins, meanwhile, made the start at right defensive end for the Giants in place of Ayers, with Jay Bromley getting the start ahead of Markus Kuhn. Receiver Victor Cruz (calf) and tight end Jerome Cunningham (knee) were the other injured Giants scratched this week. Offensive lineman Bobby Hart was New York’s lone healthy scratch.
