Giants, Eli Manning discuss contract
The Sports Xchange
Eli Manning and the New York Giants could close the gap quickly and have a new long-term contract completed before the end of training camp next month.
NFL Network reported the two sides are planning to work on a deal that is expected to be on par with the five-year, $100 million deal Ben Roethlisberger signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the offseason. Philip Rivers, drafted between Manning and Roethlisberger in 2004, is also entering the final year of his contract.
Manning’s 2015 cap figure of more than $17 million is the highest among all quarterbacks other than Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions. A long-term contract would likely reduce that figure.
Rivers, drafted fourth overall by the Giants and traded to the Chargers for Manning on draft day, has not discussed a contract with San Diego.
