Giants dedicate win to TE Fells
The Sports Xchange
The New York Giants dedicated Sunday night’s game to tight end Daniel Fells, who remains hospitalized with a staph infection that has led to five surgeries and concerns that he could lose his foot.
Coach Tom Coughlin said after the Giants’ 30-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers that the team dedicated the victory to Fells.
“Thank God we were able to get him the game ball,” Coughlin said Sunday night.
Coughlin delivered a more positive update about Fells’ condition.
“He has had two very good days in a row,” Coughlin said. “His MRIs have come back without any issues the last couple of days, thank God. Hopefully, he’ll just continue in that direction and have this cleared up so he can go home and see his kids.”
Tight end Larry Donnell made a spectacular 12-yard touchdown catch over two 49ers with 21 seconds remaining to give the Giants the win.
“It definitely felt great for Daniel,” Donnell said. “But just in general, it was good to win the football game and get another victory.”
Fells has been hospitalized for more than a week as he battles a persistent Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection that necessitated being placed in the Intensive Care Unit on Friday.
Fells, 32, was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week. He was being treated for ankle and toe injuries when he exhibited a high fever and was brought to the hospital by his wife, according to Newsday.
Just before kickoff Sunday night, Fells posted on Instagram:
“My heart is with my brothers tonight. Get that W G-men. I love every one of you #thiswillnotdefeatme.”
